Ask somebody in Partick to meet in Dennistoun and they may call it perfectly reasonable. Ask them to do it after work twice in one week and the answer can change. Glasgow dating is shaped by more than mileage: Subway access, railway lines, river crossings, late-night transport and where each person already spends their time all matter.
The West End and city centre connect easily enough. Many Southside neighbourhoods have good trains into Central, yet travelling directly from Shawlands to the West End can still turn into a multi-stage journey. The east end has its own clusters around Dennistoun, Parkhead and Baillieston. North of the city, places that appear close geographically may require a trip into town and back out again. Add Greater Glasgow locations such as Paisley, Clydebank, Bearsden or East Kilbride and a broad search radius can become misleading very quickly.
Think in travel time, not straight-line distance. Before widening your search, ask a blunt question: would you make that journey on a dark Tuesday in February for a forty-minute coffee? If not, there is little value in collecting matches there. Start with the areas that fit your normal routine. You can widen the range later if the local results feel too narrow.
Your home address is only part of the calculation. Someone who lives in Giffnock but works near Glasgow Central may find a city-centre date easy. A person based in Hillhead and working from home might prefer to stay around the West End. Mentioning where you can conveniently meet is often more useful than giving a precise neighbourhood, and it reveals less private information.
The useful dating pool is not everyone within twenty miles. It is the people you could realistically see again without needing a travel plan. There is a trade-off. A tightly local search produces fewer profiles, while a wider one gives you more choice but more awkward journeys. Neither setting is automatically right. Begin with the smallest practical area, review the results and adjust gradually. Our guide to dating in Glasgow has more detail on choosing areas and planning a first meeting across the city.
